Books

Many books have been written about Parkinson’s Disease. The following are a few that are frequently found in the libraries of those living in The Villages and surrounding areas.

The Villages is fortunate to have its own PD authors. Jane Masterson and Edmund H. Smith, Jr. have co-authored an informative book entitled Our Parkinson’s Disease Instruction Manual. The book addresses things that medical professionals often do not have time to discuss with their patients. The highly-rated book can be purchased at Amazon.com.

To learn more about Jane and Ed’s 25-year Parkinson’s journey, check out their interview on the Owl Parkinson’s YouTube channel.

The establishment, development, and management of this website is funded by the gracious financial support of authors Ed and Jane!

The Parkinson’s Foundation publishes twelve excellent PD pamphlets. Call the Foundation help line (800) 473-4636 to order one or more of the books. You may also go online to the Foundation’s website to order, although navigating the site may prove challenging!

There are several Parkinson’s Foundation Ambassadors that live in The Villages. They are Rose Lang and Edmund Smith. Go to one of the support groups and ask to be introduced to them. Rose and Ed often have copies of the books for distribution.

The Monday morning Tierra Del Sol support group has a book library. Most of the Parkinson’s Foundation books are in the library and available to be signed out.

The following are other books that are often found in the libraries of those living in or nearby The Villages. The first four were written by movement disorder neurologists that practice at the Gainesville Norman Fixel Institute for Movement Disorders. Most of the following books can be purchased at Amazon.com.

Chris Tolos lives in The Villages, Florida. He has written an excellent book on the prevention of falls. He has given presentations to local support groups where he captures one’s attention with his stories and expertise. Since falling is a common and serious consequence of Parkinson’s disease, Chris’s book is well worth reading by the person with PD as well as their care partner. Order a copy from Amazon.com.
